Finding Time for Your Self on the Road

Take "Me Time" on the Road

Working moms know - the demands of balancing work and family life can be hard. And it gets even more difficult when travel is a part of the job. Finding time for yourself sometimes seems impractical - even impossible - but "me time" can actually be one of the best things you can do for your family.

The Importance of "Me Time"

Feeling over-burdened can hamper effectiveness at work and create less patience at home, both of which are counterproductive to the happy work-life balance that working mothers try to maintain.

Taking even a few minutes to feed your interests and meet your needs can help you avoid burnout. This me time helps you:

  • Find balance

  • Relieve stress

  • Concentrate better

  • Be a more well-rounded, happier person - better for work and home

So there's no need for guilt, it's actually good for you.

How to Get Me Time on the Road

Traveling comes with its own stresses. When you add work responsibilities and time apart from the family, job-related travel can be very difficult.

To help yourself be more productive and relaxed, make room for me time. Not every minute of your trip will be booked with business, so you can make the time to invest in yourself. Some ideas:

  • Exercise - Do stretches in the room, walk the neighborhood, or take advantage of hotel exercise facilities and pools.

  • Read - Grab a novel or catch up on the latest magazines.

  • Get Creative - Write, knit, draw, take photographs - wake up your inner muse.

  • Pamper Yourself - Visit the hotel spa or pool, or find a salon and get mani/pedi.

  • See a Movie - If you can't remember the last time you saw a movie, now's your chance.

  • Eat Out - Find a local restaurant and enjoy a grown-up meal.

  • Tune In - Put on the headphones, kick back and relax to your favorite music for a while.
